Mohit N. Gilotra, M.D. Associate Professor of Orthopedics Fellowship Trained Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon

Dr. Gilotra is a nationally renowned orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has performed several thousand procedures including shoulder replacements, complex fracture reconstruction, shoulder/elbow arthroscopy, tendon transfers and ligament reconstructions. As a University of Maryland orthopedic professor, he receives complex referrals from across the entire state of Maryland.

His team conducts basic science, translational and clinical research, answering the most pressing questions in shoulder and elbow surgery. Decreasing infections, optimizing reverse shoulder replacement outcomes, improving rotator cuff healing, and introducing new implant designs are all part of his efforts. He has presented his research at many local, national, and international professional meetings and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards.

He is an associate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) and active fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. In 2018, Dr. Gilotra was awarded the Neer Award from the ASES which is the highest research award given from that society and the University of Maryland is the only institution to receive this award in the Baltimore area in the history of the ASES.

Dr. Gilotra is actively involved in teaching the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. He is the Associate Program Director for the University of Maryland Orthopedic Residency and is actively involved in local, regional and national education. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards.

Dr. Gilotra was born and raised in Maryland and is happy to be back in the area. He enjoys spending time with family especially his two young children. Hobbies include Nationals baseball, running, biking and exercise.

Dr. Gilotra specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Maryland and R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He pursued an additional year of advanced fellowship training in the management of complex shoulder and elbow injuries at the University of Pennsylvania and then obtained further training in elbow arthroscopy and minimally invasive approaches to the elbow at Tulane University in New Orleans.
